Larping in Wellington

Wellington is currently seeing a big surge in its larps. Most are one-off theatreform games, but there are campaign games in the works, as well as various conventions.

There are at least one or two larps run every month, with a wide range in size and genre. Coming up soon are Nobilis, a Christmas larp, Asterix, a Dresden Files larp, horror larps, One Night in Heaven and a wide variety of others.

You can also get into larping at some of Wellington's gaming conventions...

Kapcon

Wellington's biggest gaming convention, Kapcon offers a mixture of tabletop games, mini larps (8-16 players) and a flagship larp of 80 players. The flagship game for the 2012 convention is Achaean, a game about Greek legends and gods, set on the eve of the Trojan war. The event takes place on Wellington Anniversary Weekend of January 21st - 22nd 2012, and more details can be found at www.kapcon.org.nz.

Hydra

Wellington's own dedicated larping convention debuts in April 2012. Featuring six rounds of games, and a traditional big flagship game which will be inspired by the Mayan apocalpyse for 2012. The event will take place on the weekend of April 13th - 15th 2012, and you can find out more at: hydra.nzlarps.org. Look out as well for Confusion, a casual one day convention in August, and Fright Night, a halloween based horror convention in October, for more larping opportunities.
